Family-Friendly Adventures in Sheboygan

As the school year starts drawing to a close, you’re probably trying to think up ways to entertain your little ones. Are you in the mood for a bit of travel? Why not visit Sheboygan, Wisconsin? Located on the eastern side of the state, right on Lake Michigan, this town has something for everyone.

What to Do in Sheboygan

There are plenty of Sheboygan kid activities to entertain and captivate the young ones or those young at heart. Here are a few of our top recommendations:

Bookworm Gardens

If you’re looking for a dose of whimsy, look no further. Bookworm Gardens is a beautiful homage to children’s literature open from May through October. Wander through the garden and connect with some of your favorite storybook characters, including the Three Little Bears, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Rabbit, Charlotte, and Ms. Frizzle. This is one of the most sought-out and beloved Sheboygan kid activities.

Above & Beyond Children’s Museum

Above & Beyond Children’s Museum is the perfect place to let your kids roam around and explore the world around them. There are plenty of hands-on experiences to capture their imagination and attention (and maybe give the parents a bit of a break!)

Play a Whompamaphone, experiment with gravity, explore the U.S.S. Efroymson, and traverse the Sky Crawl. All of the activities are adult-friendly, so grown-ups can get in on the fun!

If you have the time, we recommend spending at least 2-3 hours to get the whole experience.

Quarry Park

For those sweltering summer days, book your tickets for the Sheboygan Quarry Park. Kids and adults can swim, slide, and splash to their heart’s content. There’s even an inflatable waterpark (yes, you read that right - an inflatable water park!). Plus, plenty of opportunities to paddleboard and kayak. Have you ever wanted to surf? You can sign up for surfing lessons and ride the Lake Michigan waves.

Kohler-Andrae State Park

Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of the only remaining natural preserves on Lake Michigan. While there you can take in stunning views of the lake along stretches of shimmering beaches. Plan an adventurous day jam-packed with canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or cycling. There’s even horseback riding.

Sheboygan’s Nature Trails

Sheboygan, Wisconsin is known for its extensive nature trails. Plan a day-long hike along Old Plank Trail Road, which has plenty of sites and settlements to explore. Reconnect with nature at the Ellwood H. May Environmental Park. This beloved spot has six unique habitats across 135 acres. Their educational “Nature at Noon” program, held at noon,  offers you and your family an opportunity to learn about specific nature topics!
